Is Content Marketing For You?

Today, the web is king and your website is more often than not the front door to your business. Therefore, organic visitors to your site are everything. But attracting them is no mean feat.

Brands and businesses are increasingly looking to content marketing to attract web traffic, but what is content marketing and is it for you?

Content marketing is about creating and distributing valuable content to grab the attention of your potential audience and to ultimately drive them back to your website – where it’s then your website’s job to turn that visitor into an enquiry or sale.

So, if you want more customers contacting you via your website, then content marketing is for you.

Here are my three top tips to help you put winning words together and create content that gets people to your site:

1. Make it engaging

The number one rule of content marketing: your words need to excite, inspire and engage. Whether it’s landing page copy or a blog post, you’ve got to make your first line attention grabbing in order to hook them and reel them in. And it’s not just the first line that’s important, it’s all of it. Remember – no one wants to read a statistic and jargon-heavy piece of content. We’ve got stuff to do remember!

Bear in mind that it’s quality, not quantity here. Make it short and sweet. Once you’ve written a blog or website content piece, go back and take out whatever isn’t vital.

2. Make it original

All-important rule number two – your content must be original. If you copy your blog content from anywhere else, you’ll more often than not be caught out, and you don’t want that! It also harms your credibility if a reader realises that they’ve already read something you’ve posted. There’s a world of possibilities out there, so come up with something new. The tip below will help a lot with this!

3. Use your knowledge

When it comes to content, many people run and hide, believing that they simply can’t write. Often, they haven’t even given it a go. When it comes to creating short, engaging content, you really don’t have to be Shakespeare. In fact, it’s better if your content is written in a conversational way, that people feel comfortable with. That said, always be alert to pitfalls. One area where many websites fall down is by speaking too much from the business’ own point of view. Remember to position your reader at the heart of your content, addressing their pain points with the benefits of your service, and don’t assume they have the same industry knowledge as you as this may just end up alienating them.

So there you have three top tips to get you going. Once you’ve got your first piece of content, get it out there. Post it on your blog and then share it on all your social media accounts. And don’t forget to publish it as a Google Post, as mentioned in my VIP email a few weeks ago.
