✅ Do these 5 things to improve your ranking in Google
Check the page content for the keyword you want to be found for
This may not be your homepage. Ensure this page mentions the keywords and variations of those phrases in both the standard text and the headings. Add additional content to raise the level of your content to at least 800 words. Utilise bullet points and keep information concise but easily readable and understandable. We recommend treating every page as a landing page. Add images to the page and ensure you complete the following information on the page
- Alt Tags for images – when you add an image, there are some additional fields you can complete, one being the alt tag. This should be a short description of the image, and where possible, include the keyword you have chosen earlier if it is relevant to the image.
- Meta Descriptions and Meta Titles should be completed with in the parameters shown on your website If you are using Yoast ( an SEO Plugin) then at the bottom of your content page there will be a Yoast section, this will give you suggestions to help your content perform better in search results and this is where you will find these fields. These constitute your equivalent to an ad in the search results, so ensure you mention your keywords and the benefits of the service or product to potential customers.
- If you have access to Google Search Console, submit the page to Google for indexing. Do this by adding the URL to the search facility at the top of the page. Then, halfway down the page on the right-hand side, you can resubmit for indexing.
Check the internet and all directories
To ensure that they all show the same exact spelling of your business name, have the same correct address and telephone number. If you find an incorrect listing, get it changed. This is known as your NAP’s and these being the same across the web is advantageous to your Google Search Listings.
Do you have a Google Business Profile listing, Bing Business, Apple Business or similar directory listings?
If not, sign up for them; they are free and will help promote your business directly and indirectly. For example, your Google Business Listing could show for some searches higher than standard listings, so it pays to be there.
Does your website perform well in terms of page load speed, easy navigation, and work well on all mobiles and desktop computers
If not, it could impact not only on visitors’ satisfaction with your website but will also be detrimental to your search engine ranking results, as search engines like Google want to promote websites that offer great user experience. Speak to your website developer to make any improvements as soon as possible.
Check Google Search Console
To ensure your pages are listed or why they aren’t. This is a free tool from Google and can also highlight keywords used in searches, which can be useful for you to incorporate into your website content to help you rank for additional search terms.
