Is it time for a website re-design, let’s find out…
Your website looks okay, it does the job when people can find it, but here are a few reasons it might just be time to consider a redesign.
First of all, how old is your mobile phone? This may seem a little far from topic, but I’d bet it is less than 4 years old. Am I right?
New features, incompatible apps on older devices, slower use and reliability issues are often reasons for looking at upgrading to a newer model, and we generally don’t bat an eyelid at ordering that new phone.
But when it comes to your business website, the front door to your business we can find we want to drag out the lifespan of our website until we have absolutely no choice.
Older websites might look aesthetically pleasing still even if not bang on trend with design, but under the bonnet, they are ageing faster than you may realise. Those useful little bits of code or plugins will start to falter and may not be compatible with the version of your website. Likewise, with mobile device technology changing rapidly, your site may not continue to be responsive, causing user headaches and negatively impacting on your SEO.
Trying to add in additional features or even so much as moving the layout around etc can cause problems. Imagine trying to build a 2nd story extension on a garage that was never designed with that purpose in mind or like the donkey in the children’s game buckaroo, adding too many items to your website will at some point cause it to crash.
A good rule of thumb would be to consider a new website every 3 years. This works really well as we find customers usually want to add new features, have changed the business services etc or want the business to move in a different direction by this point, and so it fits in well with business planning.
